Leadership & Governance

Per our Bylaws, the Board of Governors is comprised of not less than 5 and not more than 12 persons (unless special approval is obtained from the members of the Society), all of whom are elected by the members of the Society. The members of the Society, in turn, are comprised of current and past members of the Board.  

The Board may be comprised of current parents, past parents, alumni and others, each of whom is selected on the basis of their skills, leadership experience, and support of the School’s mission, vision and values. Governors are elected by members of the Society at a Special General Meeting that is held each spring. Under the School’s Bylaws, the Board nominates individuals to stand for election at those meetings.

Individuals interested in contributing to the governance of the School are generally invited to apply first to serve as volunteers on a committee of the Board. This provides prospective candidates with an opportunity to become more familiar with the School’s governance structure, strategic priorities and volunteer expectations, while also allowing the Board to better assess the candidate’s skills, experience and potential contribution. In special circumstances, the Board may also consider candidates through a different process where their skills, experience or connection to the School would meaningfully support the Board’s needs. Upon their election, Governors automatically become members of the Society.

Applications and expressions of interest are considered for members of the Southpointe community who:

• Have demonstrated a continued interest in, and support of, the School;
• Possess skills and experience that complement the School’s strategic plan; and
• Have maintained continuous good standing in all business dealings with the School.

The Board is strategic in its mandate and does not get involved with day-to-day school operations, such as curriculum,  student discipline, building maintenance, or bussing. These areas, as well as anything else relating to daily school life, remain the sole purview of the Head of School and the Leadership Team.

At Southpointe Academy, we welcome parent participation; there are many opportunities for parent involvement throughout the school community. Parents can become involved either by volunteering their time or supporting our school events. For more information, please consult our Parent Portal.
